Course Description: Pre-Internship in Community Health Education. HEA 497. Seminar in
Community Health Education. This course is offered in preparation for the student’s placement
in their Community Helth Internship HEA498. Students with prepare their professional
portfolios, investigate Internship placements and select a site. Students will be expected to
complete all Internship placement requirements (e.g. formal applications, background checks,
drug screens, etc.) during this semester.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify appropriate professional behaviors for the work settings.
2. Review and learn to apply Community Health Education Ethics principles
2. Develop a professional resume & cover letter for the job search process.
3. Improve professional presentation skills
3. List and discuss Community Health Education Competency and Responsibilities
4. Prepare for the CHES National exam
5. Understand issues of professional confidentiality and liability.
6. Identify any existing gaps in skills and knowledge area to rectify prior to community
placements.
7. Develop and practice interview skills.
9. Develop a portfolio.
