HEA 497 - Pre-Internship Seminar. (1) Prerequisite- Senior standing or approval of instructor. This course prepares students for their Internship placement . Students will prepare their porfolios, work on professional skills and identify their internship placements.

Justification for request or degree change:

BS in Community Health Education originally changed their requirements for graduation from a 3-credit, 60 hour practicum to a 6-credit, 300 hour internship. This change was implemented to bring program requirements in alignment with national standards in anticipation of program credentialing. In order for the student to complete advanced work to prepare for placement without impeding the time to complete the required hours, some preparation is required in advance of the actual internship (e.g., placement approval, background check, drug testing, etc). In reviewing different strategies to address this concern, it was decided that adding a new one (1) credit hour course (HEA 497) as a prerequisite to the internship class would allow the student to begin the internship fully prepared and could distribute content previously in HEA 498 in order to enhance a smooth transition to the internship placement. In order to accomplish this within the total hour parameters for the major, it was determined that the Internship class would be reduced to 5 hours with the content and activities of that hour being transferred to the new one hour course (HEA 497).

Yes No Does this proposal require University Curriculum Committee (UCC) or Faculty Senate approval (refer to http://www.uncwil.edu/facsen/ucc/ )? ( If yes, forward proposal to the UCC and complete and submit the appropriate UCC form(s).
