ANDMEMBERSATLARGE
AnelectionoffacultymemberstoUniversityCouncilwillbeheldtoreplacethosememberswhosetermson
thecurrentCouncilexpireonJune30,2014.UniversityCouncilisresponsibleforoverseeinganddirecting
theuniversity’sacademicaffairs.Yourparticipationbynominatingacolleagueorbystandingforelectionis
essentialtothecontinuinggoodgovernanceoftheinstitution.
TheUniversitySecretaryoverseestheelectionofmembersofCouncilasprovidedinsection57(1)ofThe
UniversityofSaskatchewanAct,1995.Theelectionproceduresfollowedwillbethoseprescribedbythe
CouncilBylaws.
AfacultymembermaychoosetostandforelectionunderoneofthefollowingsectionsoftheUniversityAct:
(1) Section53(2)(b)[53(2)(d)‐inthecaseofLibrarian]

"onefacultymemberrepresentingeachcollegeandaffiliatedandfederatedcollegewhoisa
memberofthecollegeandwhohasbeenelectedbythemembersofthecollege;"
Section53(2)(c)[53(2)(e)‐inthecaseofLibrarian]
"onerepresentative,inadditiontothemembermentionedinclause(b),representingeach
collegeandaffiliatedandfederatedcollegewhoiseither:
(i)
thedeanofthecollege,oramemberofthecollege,whohasbeenelectedbythemembers
ofthecollege;or
(ii) ifthereisnoelection,thedeanofthecollege;"or

Thisyear,thefollowingvacanciesexisttobefilled:

Thetermsformembersatlargewillbefilledinorderbygreatestnumberofvoteswiththethree‐yearterms
filledfirst,followedbythetwo‐andone‐yearterms.
AllmembersofUniversityCouncilwhosetermexpiresonJune30,2014areeligibleforre‐election.
CouncilbylawsstatethatannualelectionsforCouncilwillbecompletedbyMarch31.Nominationswill
consistofamember’swrittenindicationofeligibilityandwillingnesstostandforelection.Nominationsneed
onlybesignedbythememberstandingforelection.
TheUniversityofSaskatchewanAct,1995definesafacultymemberas"apersonwhoisemployedonafull‐
timebasisbytheuniversityoranaffiliatedorfederatedcollegeandwhoservesasaprofessor,associate
professor,assistantprofessor,lecturer,full‐timespeciallecturer,full‐timeinstructor,librarianorextension
specialist".
Inaccordancewithpastpractice"fulltime"willencompassfacultymembersandlibrarianswhohave
continuingappointments.
