Watson School of Education Department of Elementary, Middle Level and Literacy Education EDNL 332: Apprentice Field Experience II (1) Course Description: Corequisites: EDN 325, 334, 336, 348, 414 Designed to provide supervised extended experiences in public elementary school classrooms. Students will complete field experience requirements of corequisites and will plan and teach whole group lessons. Field placement will require one full day per week for entire semester. Conceptual Framework: The Watson School of Education strives to develop highly competent professionals to serve in educational leadership roles. These experiences afford students the opportunity to develop the following competencies: Informed data driven decision making Reflective practice Commitment to ethical and professional standards Knowledge in academic content and pedagogy Technology integration Ability to meet needs of diverse learners Knowledge and use of appropriate communication strategies Individual student growth in these areas will result in educational practice that positively impacts learning. Objectives: Upon successfully completing this course, the student should be able to: 1. Interact collaboratively and cooperatively with peers, classroom mentor teachers, university supervisors, school personnel, administrators, students, and parents. Develop and teach lessons to the whole class, demonstrating understanding of inquiry, content, and 21st Century skills. (ACEI 1, 3.1, 3.5; NCPTS III and IV) 10. Further develop the ability to reflectively think about the complexities of the elementary teacher's roles and responsibilities and the complexities of the elementary classroom. You will be required to be on time at your designated school and must inform the teacher and your instructor if an absence is necessary. Suggested Assignments: 1. Complete field experience requirements as assigned in your corequisite methods courses. 2. Will plan and teach individuals, small group, and whole class lessons. 3. Focused observation of a leaner to determine how and why the child is or isn’t learning. 4. Complete focused observations of child development, schedule, routines, classroom management, and student behaviors 5. Attendance and class participation. Grading Method: Pass/Fail.
