NAT 2 – Lake Diefenbaker
Lake Diefenbaker the great lake of SK: I
took this photo
during a site visit for
my research in the

great shot of the lake
and its sharp edged
banks.

NAT 3 – SK Provincial Flower Emblem
The SK provincial
flower emblem: I
took this photo in
the backyard garden
of my former
landlord in 2011. She
was the one who told
me this is the
provincial lily. I like
this photo because it
shows the close up
beauty of the flower.

NAT 19 – Old Man on His Back Prairie and Heritage Conservation Area
Sunset at the Old Man on His
Back Prairie and Heritage
Conservation Area, Saskatchewan. A large donation of land by
the Eastend area ranchers Peter
and Sharon Butala provided a
nucleus for the 5,300 hectare
(13,000 acre) of protected native
prairie, now managed by the
Nature Conservancy of Canada.
Photographed in July of 2010. I
visited OMHB several times that
summer to photograph different
prairie wildflowers that appear at
different times throughout the
growing season.

NAT 20 – North Milk River
North Milk River meanders
through the Sandstone Ranch
near Del Bonita, Alberta. The
property is managed by
several conservation organizations with a goal to maintain and enhance important
habitat for species at risk
present in the area. A unique
benefit of conserving this
property is that it creates an
opportunity to leverage further
stewardship and support for
the local community through a
grazing co-operative. Photographed one warm August
evening, a few minutes after
sunset.

Lake Louise, October
2013. This photo is one
of my favorites because
of the apparent
foreground (wispy

fascinating that there
are lakes in the
mountains of Canada
that remind me of the
water in the Bahamas.

Waldron Grazing Co-operative,
Alberta. This co-operative has

supplement their grazing operations. The Waldron Co-operative received the 2010 Alberta
Beef Producers' Environmental
Stewardship Award for their
stewardship practices that focus
on energy management, watering systems, rangeland health,

SUST 4 – “Paws & Boots”
CATEGORY WINNER!
'Paws & boots' at Wolverine PFRA
community pasture near Lanigan, Saskatchewan. Community
Pasture Program, administered by
the Canada's federal government
was designed to assist small- and
medium-sized mixed farm
operations. Each fall, PFRA
pasture managers work with
hired riders to sort out cattle for
delivery to patrons at the end of
the grazing season. These cowboys are crucial in maintaining a
proper management of the
pastures, for the benefit of
pasture users as well as plants
and animals that rely on a healthy
prairie ecosystem. In October of
2013 I visited the Wolverine PFRA
pasture to document the cowboy
life, part of our cultural heritage
and tradition that has a crucial
role in sustainable management
of our grasslands.

SUST 15 – Misty Cabin
I was very taken with

always had a special
place in my heart for
being areas to change
from the busy pace of

natural spaces, so that
future generations can
enjoy them too!

by row boat to the forest

much labour goes into the

this area, just to sustain
themselves. I hope this
beautiful land can continue
to provide resources for its
people well into the future!
