(OPERA TION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS)
General
This manual is prepared to acquaint you with the operation, maintenance
and accessories of the BUEHLER TECH-MET® furniture line.
When installed, an attractive and efficient material preparation laboratory
will be achieved.
Warranty
This unit is guaranteed against defective material and workmanship for a
period of (2) years from date of shipment by BUEHLER Ltd. Warranty is
void if inspection shows evidence of abuse, misuse or unauthorized
repair.
Warranty covers only replacement of defective materials.

Unpacking Carefully unpack and check contents. TECH-MET polishing tables with
gril)der/polishers contain sophisticated mechanical and electronic
components. Care has been taken in the packaging of each unit to
protect it in transit from the factory to the final destination. After opening
the carton, remove the following accessory equipment that is packed
with each grinder/polisher:
1 box containing the polishing wheel,
1 package with.samples of grinding paper and polishing cloths,
1 box containing the splash ring, cover, paper holding band and cloth
clamp
1 package containing (2) O·rings.
1-1
MA468171-1
1211/95 TECH·MET polishing tables are heavy. When lifting a table off its
wooden skid, two methods are recommended; the first, is to lift on the
outside edges of the table legs. (See FIGURE 1-1) an alternate method,
when a table Is supplied with a lower cabinet, is to' cut a V2 inch thick
piece of plywood to just fit between the table legs that extends past the
front and back lips of the cabinet module. Insert the plywood beneath the
cabinet unit and then lift the table from under the plywood. This will
distribute the load to the outside walls of the cabinet unit and prevent
damage to the floor of the cabinet.
If any components are missing or damaged, save the packing list and
materials and advise the carrier and BUEHLER, LTD. of the discrepancy.

Installation
TECH-MET polishing tables are intended for floor installation in a
convenient location with access to utility services, (electric, water and
sewer). Adjust the table to a level position with the (4) leg leveling
screws. Access to the rear leveling screws, when tables are supplied
with lower cabinet units, can be achieved by removing the shelves or
drawers from the cabinet module. It is not necessary to remove the
cabinet module. If wall cabinets are to be installed, (see instructions in
TECH-MET furniture manual). this should be done before the table is
placed in its final location.
When installing BUEHLER reagent shelves with tables, secure firing strip
to wall at the reference line, and then level tables to match line height.
This will minimize installation time.
Electrical
The Flush Mounted Grinder/Polishers are internally connected to
individual control towers. An IEC power cord is provided for each unit.
It is recommended t9 provide individual circuits for each polisher/grinder.
Voltage, current and frequency requirements are shown on a
specification plate at the back of the table. See table of contents for
location in manual for electrical specifications and rotational speeds of
available flush mounted polisher/grinder. (Ref. Table I.)
U
WARNING
Electrical Shock Hazard. Optional hard wiring and
electrical maintenance should be performed by a qualified
electrical technician.

Plurrlbing
Water faucets and grinder/polishers are internally connected with V4 inch plastic tubing, which must be connected to a water supply via each V4 npt bulk head fitting, located in the back of the table. This water source should be equipped with a separate shut off valve. When not used or attended for prolonged periods, the water supply to the unit must be turned off. The recommended water pressure is 40 to 100 psi. Each GrinderlPolishers sink and bowl are connected together with plastic drain pipe that exits through holes provided at the rear of the TECH-MET® Table. Common TECH-MET® Table accessories requiring a water supply and/or drain connection are supplied with Individual instructions. (See Section 3). Upon completion of the drain, water and electrical connections, test for leaks at maximum available water pressure. Then check all functional
control switches as outlined in the control section of this manual. Operation of ECOMET Series Grinder/Polisher

Tips for smooth operation
Install polishing wheels by lining up the two pins (with D-rings) on the top
of the base plate with the holes in the underside of the polishing wheel.
When the lugs engage the holes, press down on the platen to produce a
friction fit. See Figure 1-2.
Always use the splash ring to prevent messy over spray and as a safety
feature to help prevents accidental contact of fingers with the rotating
wheel and cloth clamp.
. r'
Do not leave worn-out psa backed abrasive papers or cloths on the
wheel after use. If left on the wheel for prolonged periods of time, they
may be difficutl to remove.
Makes(Jre the wheel surface is dean and free of residue from previous
operations. Adhesive residue may be removed with an approved
.
chlorinated solvent.

1211/95 Maintenance DAILY MAINTENANCE
Strip wom-out cloths and papers from wheel surfaces and remove
adhesive residue.
Wipe the exterior surfaces of the cabinet.
The bowl flush jet should minimize the build-up of -grinding and polishing
residue in the bowl, but it is advisable to run additional water from the
dispenser arm to help clear away any accumulations of abrasive residue.
Do not use sharp objects such as a screw driver to dislodge residue from
the bowl as this may mar or damage the bowl surface.

1211195 Installation Instructions for 40-2123 Service Module
Recommended mounting positions of the Service Modules are shown in
Fig3-9. Service Modules require a minimum of 6 inches clearance
behind the back splash for panel installation.
When installing a Service Module in each of two tables, position back to
back, the service modules must be off-set from one another to use a
standard Reagent Shelf and end filler kits.
Note: To insert the Service Module, it will be necessary to remove the
Air Regulator from the Service Module frame. To remove the Air
Regulator, undo the bezel nut located on the front side of the Service
Module, and remove the regulator assembly. It is NOT necessary to
disconnect the 1/4 inch tube (item 15) to insert Service Module.
1. Cut service Module opening 8-7/8" long by 5-1/16" high.
2. Insert the module into the cutout. Use the modules as a guide to
locate the positions of the screw mounting holes. Drill four pilot
screw holes.
3. Secure the Service Module to the back splash panel with the four
black screws (r788S). Reassemble the air regulator into the Service
Module frame.
4. Connect the air supply to the 1/4 NPT inlet on the air filter (item 18).

Locate the Buehler Table approximately 7" from the wall. For
Installations composed of two or more adjacent tables including corner units. The corner unit should be located first and the adjacent tables placed in reference to the corner unit. Referring to the sketch. and using the table backsplash panel as a
reference line, make a paraltelline on the wall to serve as a guide to
locate a support strip. Fasten a support strip (I" x 4" pine will do) to the
wall using the reference line as a guide.
Place the reagent shelf so that it is supported by the support strip and
the table back splash panel. the shelf should extend over the front of the
back splash panel by about VS".
To secure the shelf, first carefully locate and drill holes to accept 10 x I
V2" wood screws. for 3 unit tables, 3 screws are adequate to hold the
front edge to the table back splash. Two (2) screws are adequate for I
and 3 unit tables .
. Although screws are necessary only for attachment to the back splash
panel, additional screws may be used to secwe the back edge to the
support strip. for a neater appearance, fill the screw holes to hide the
screw heads and to prevent dirt from accumulating in the holes.
Maintenance To maintain the attractive appearance of the exposed surfaces of
reagent shelves, wipe periodically with a soft damp cloth.
