Tin Can Native Plant Pots You Will Need: Empty aluminum can Nail and hammer Paints, stickers, fabric and other decorating materials of your choice Popsicle stick Thin cardboard Scissors Black marker 5-10 small rocks or pebbles Soil Seeds that are native to Saskatchewan such as Purple Coneflower, Smooth Blue Beard Tongue, or Tufted Fleabane White craft glue Water 1. Wash and dry the aluminum can. If there are any sharp edges, use sandpaper and make them smooth. 2. Turn can upside down and have an adult use a nail and hammer to poke holes in the bottom. 3. Decorate the can however you would like and let dry. 4. Place enough pebbles at the bottom of the can to make a single layer. 5. Add enough soil to fill 3/4 of the can. 6. Poke your finger ¾” into the soil (about the length of the first part of your finger), drop some seeds in and cover them up with soil. 7. Fill to the top with more soil and gently pat down. 8. Place can on a plate to catch any water drainage. Add a little water at a time until it starts to drain out the bottom, this is when you know your seeds have enough. 9. Cut piece of cardboard into a small rectangle and use the marker to write the name of the plant. Attach to popsicle stick and insert into the soil. 10.Place your new garden in a sunny window and remember to give it a little water when soil is dry to the touch.
