The campus community is a quiet haven in the middle of a vibrant Nagoya. It offers a mix of natural beauty and dynamic architecture, making it an ideal place to study overseas. Academics Students accepted into the UNC Wilmington exchange program with Nagoya Gakuin University will receive credit toward their degree requirement for some majors. The Institute for Japanese Studies at NGU offers five levels of intensive Japanese language studies as well as a broad range of Japanese Studies classes covering areas such as Japanese history, politics, religion, ceramics, economics and the natural environment. Housing Most UNCW students live in the International Seminar House. The Seminar House is composed of dual occupancy dorm-type rooms with community areas for cooking, studying and relaxation. Your floormates will be other international students from around the world. Off campus housing may also be obtained. Meals are available at a variety of inexpensive student cafeterias. Social life is an integral part of the NGU experience. NGU offers a Cost wide variety of extra-curricular and sporting activities, including football, basketball, archery, horseback riding, karate, skiing, photography and music. The university also offers ceramic art and Shodo painting, both a strong part of the Japanese culture. This program is available as an Exchange or as a Study Abroad Program: •Exchange – This means you pay your regular tuition and fees to UNCW, and your room and board abroad. Surrounding Areas Located in the heart of Japan, the university is convenient to the cities of Kyoto (50 minutes by train), Nara (two hours by train), Tokyo (two hours by bullet train), and Chiba — home of Japan’s Disneyland (three hours by bullet train). Tours and excursions are also affordable means of seeing the beauty and grandeur of Japan. Both mountain and ocean venues are easily reached within two hours. •Study Abroad – This means you pay your tuition, fees, room and board directly to NGU. With each option, there will be additional costs for international airfare, passport, health insurance, local transportation, Japan student visa, and an exit tax. Please meet with an advisor at the Office of International Programs to discuss which option is best for you. Map & Images Financial Aid & Scholarships Federal and state financial aid may be applied toward this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships.
