PRE-REQUISITE(S)/PRE-REQUIREMENT(S)
The course is designed for scientists, technicians concerned with developmental projects in the
coastal zones, protection of coastal areas, design of coastal protection structures, rehabilitation of
coastal zones and analysis of coastal degradation. This short professional development course
will also be of interest to school leavers and graduates who will gain insight about the
possibilities for further studies and advanced research in fields related to coastal science.

The aims are to:

Identify specific ocean data for different types of projects;
Provide information about instrumentations for ocean data collection;
Perform analyses of ocean data;
Perform more complex analyses of ocean data for prediction purposes.
OUTLINE SYLLABUS
Wave Characteristics; Wave Statistics; Probabilistic Analyses of ocean data: Measurements of
Ocean data; Transducers and Instruments; Bathymetry measurements; Shoreline Profiling; Beach
Profiling; Ecological Data; Oceanography Data; Data conditioning for Models; Wave Prediction;
Remote sensing measurements.
