Teacher Licensure: Students must complete 40 hours of education courses in addition to the specialty area requirements. For information
on admissions criteria for the Teacher Education Program and the courses required for licensure (i.e., certification) in North Carolina, see
the Watson School of Education section of the catalogue. Students planning to pursue licensure should apply to the Watson School of
Education as soon as admissions requirements are met (typically in the fifth semester) and plan their programs in regular consultation with
their advisors. Teacher licensure requirements are established at the state level and may be changed by the state at any time.

In addition to the Shakespeare course, one course must be in literature before 1900.
An overall GPA of “C” (2.00) or better is required among courses used to satisfy the major.
Up to 6 hrs of writing courses from outside the ENG dept, including CRW, may be counted towards major, with permission.
NOTE: No more than 12 hours may be at the 200-level. ENG 110 or ENG 111 will not count toward the major. University
Studies Literature courses (at the 200-level) can count towards both US & University major requirements.
