 Consensus – Normally meet @ CMS; possibly every third meeting on campus

 If a member cannot attend on a regular basis, the member should send representative

Discussion Item: IAC Membership
 (Dan Baden): Currently: 4 Chairs, CMS Directors, 4 CMS Program Leaders, Jack Hall
(Environmental Studies)

Changes: CMS Program Leaders changing

Recommend: 3 Faculty Representatives, 3 year terms, 1 new each year
 Martin: Propose 4 representatives, 2 year terms, more participation, less burdens on time

commitment, fresh viewpoints

No more than 2 from 1 department

Every department represented at least every 2 years
 Scott: Constituency: Resident/non-resident faculty – at least 1 non-resident representative
 Jim: At the time of the IAC meeting, CMS affiliated researchers included 33 on-site
(resident marine scientists) and 35 off site (non-resident marine scientists holding faculty
appointments and affiliated with CMS). “Resident” includes 9 non-faculty appointment
researchers. (Update after survey discussed below: 33 Resident, 27 Non-resident.)
 Scott: Resident/non-resident faculty representatives are not discipline representatives
(Department Chairs represent the Discipline)
 Martin: Recommend 4 Faculty Representatives: 2 Resident & 2 Non-resident (1 Change
each year)


