Dr. Dean Hummel of Millersburg, OH, the first Virginia Tech Program Leader in Counselor
Education, was honored at Kent State University on October 4th with the Distinguished Centennial

whose accomplishments and career have brought honor and distinction to Kent State University, and
who has advanced the field of education, health, and human services.
Dean was President of the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision and Department Chair
of Counselor Education @ Ohio University prior to arriving at Virginia Tech in 1970. He, along with Carl
McDaniels, started the counselor education program @ VT and that foundation propelled is success.
Each person who receives such an award is asked to talk about their career for about 3-5 minutes, and
Dean did a really good job.(Thanks toDr. Nancy Bodenhorn, Associate Director of the Office of Academic
