BA (Hons) History and Political Science – SH338 1. Objectives This degree programme is designed to provide knowledge and competence in the field of culture, history and society, and international relations. It provides the background for a number of professions in such sectors as teaching, the civil service, the media or public relations, heritage and research institutions, and international and regional organisations. 2. General Entry Requirements In accordance with the University General Entry Requirements for admission to undergraduate degree programmes. 3. Programme Requirements 4. A credit in English Language at Cambridge School Certificate/‘O’ Level or equivalent. 2 GCE ‘A’ Level passes in 2 relevant subjects. Relevant subjects include the following: History, Sociology, Languages (English, French), Indian Languages (Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu), Geography, Hinduism, Islamic Studies, Economics Maths, and Law. Assessment Each module will be assessed over 100 marks with details as follows (unless otherwise specified): Written examinations for all modules will be carried out at the end of the academic year except for semester modules (unless otherwise stated). Assessment will be based on a written examination of 2 to 3-hour duration (normally a paper of 2 hour duration for modules carrying less or equal to three credits, and 3 hour paper for modules carrying six credits) and on continuous assessment done during the semester or year. An overall total of 40% for combined continuous assessment and written examination components would be required to pass the module, without minimum thresholds within the individual continuous assessment and written examination. The same criterion will apply for modules being assessed jointly. Note that all overall mark for the two modules will be considered and not the individual marks for each of the two modules. 1 8. Submission Deadline for Dissertation / MiniProject Final copy: Last week day of March of the Academic Year by 4.00 p.m at latest 9. Repeat and Termination of Registration If the CPA of a student is < 40 for an academic year, s/he will have to repeat the entire academic year, and retake modules as and when offered. However, s/he will not be required, if s/he wishes, to retake module(s) for which Grade C or above has been obtained. Students will be allowed to repeat only once over the entire duration of the Programme of Studies. Registration of a student will be terminated if (i) the CPA < 40 at the end of an academic year and the student has already repeated one year of study; or ii) the maximum duration allowed for completion of the Programme of Studies has been exceeded. 2 10.
