Business Items:

The general education proposals for each of the subcommittees were summarized.

III: Language

NAS 141 and 142 require clarification. The subcommittee is waiting for a response from the department. Professor Ravinovich will provide Chair Thibeau with a copy of the correspondence.

IV: Expressive Arts

The Art courses require revision to the syllabi. MUSI 304 requires a justification for offering the course at the upper-division level.

V: Literary & Artistic

Review is pending.

VI: Historical and Cultural

Professors Eglin and Shearer agreed to serve on the subcommittee. Professor Shearer reviewed the courses and approved them. Professor Eglin has not yet responded.

VIII: Ethics and Human Values

Subcommittee members include Professors Muench and Grey. Subcommittee Chair

Luckowski has requested clarification from most of the requestors and provided a deadline of November 5 th

. ANTH 403 and PHL 210E were approved by the subcommittee. Most of the courses require clarification.

IX: American & European

LIT 110 and 120 deleted the designation. The committee approved these. The three members of the subcommittee (Professors Lopach, Dietrich, and Randal) agreed that

JOUR 110 did not meet the aim or criteria of the group. The department is revising the form / syllabus.

X: Indigenous & Global

The subcommittee reviewed and approved JPMN 150 and SSEA 102. The only

comment was that SSEA 102, Introduction to South and Southeast Asia, may wish to identify a time period in the title. The Committee approved the courses.

XI: Natural Science

The subcommittee reviewed the courses. Clarification is required for RECM/FOR 246.

ANTH 215 and SCN 260 were approved.

Good and Welfare

Students have had difficulty finding Indigenous and Global courses. This might be because courses can only list one general education letter and many of the Group X courses are double dipped. There is an attribute search tool available in Cyberbear and

Course Search. These were demonstrated.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m.
