Richter, P. Williams The meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m. by Chair Ware. Approval of the 2/28/07 minutes was postponed. Dean Allen made several recommendations for amendments. These will be made for consideration at the next meeting. Communications: a) Dean Allen provided several updates from the library. The executive officers have been discussing units operating plans in relation to budget planning. Some decisions will be made next week. According to Associate Provost Staub, units will be able to keep unused year-end money. The Library has proposed a 7% inflation increase, but the state’s budget for higher education is still working its way through the Legislature Interviews are taking place for a Blackboard Director. The Library will be exhibiting a sculpture on loan from the Montana Museum of Art and Culture. The library had a demonstration of Serial Solutions, a product that manages resource licenses and improves functionality of resource searches across databases. Unfinished Business: a) The election of a chair-elect was again postponed due to the number of absences. Chair Ware has a conflict with the 4/25 meeting date, so perhaps the committee would be willing to meet on 4/18. He will contact some of the other members regarding the date and the possibility of serving as chair-elect. DBS Professor Allendorf, a long-term member of the Library and Archives Committee has expressed an interest in serving again. He might be a possible candidate for chair next year. b) Professor Brown provided information regarding the mechanics of the Approval Plan (see diagram below). Non- academic publishers are excluded from the publishers that supply the profile. YBP is interested in hearing about other publishers, so faculty should inform the liaison librarians about a publisher that are not on the supply list. Non-subject parameters are a matrix that interacts with the other filters. If the select level or non-subject parameter overrides the profile the library will receive a slip. Reports can be generated listing books ordered, slips, and books not ordered. It is possible to receive reports for areas outside your department to capture interdisciplinary interests. Faculty feedback can influence the collection at several junctions in the approval plan. Professor Brown will prepare a FAQ’s document for the next meeting.
