Graduate Council Meeting Minutes
October 31, 2007

Chair Erickson called the meeting to order at 12:10p.m
Approval of the 10/24/07 minutes was postponed to allow for Dean Strobel’s corrections.
Communication:

Graduate School Dean candidate presentations are at 2:00 p.m. in UC 330
tomorrow, Thursday 10/31 and Monday, 11/5
Business Items:
Curriculum review – Social Science Subcommittee
The items on the summary were approved with the exception of Ling 471 and 472, the
Level 1 PhD title change, and the section in the Political Science program modification
that referenced waiving the GRE for admissions. Syllabi have been requested to clarify
graduate increments for Ling 471 and 472. The Council would like to review the original
Anthropology PhD proposal to see whether the title change should include a form for
program revisions as well. Political Science will need to revise their document in
accordance with the admissions guidelines once approved.
Program Review - History
Consideration of the program review document for History was postponed to allow
Council members the opportunity to read the document that was distributed only a short
time prior to the meeting.
Admissions Guideline Draft
The Council discussed the draft submitted by the workgroup. Recommendations were
made for a slight revision that will be distributed for a vote at the next meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 1:00 p.m.
