End of Project Summary Report Form (Sample) Title Rickie Dumpster Club Workshop Audience/ Focus Youth, ages 9-12 Synopsis (Background & Purpose) Background: In 1995, Mahaska County establish a recycling center. Not only has the center provided recycling functions, but marketing and educational functions as well. Additional recycling centers have been established in other area communities over the past year. Purpose: To encourage the use of these centers, Mahaska County Extension Service proposed a three-day workshop series for youth ages 9-12, focusing on environmental education, specifically related to recycling, decision-making and community services. Through education and skills building, youth were empowered to educate community members regarding environmentally and ecologically sound choices via mass media and one-on-one consultation. 07/01/95 to 05/1/96 Dates of Project Products (Workshops, materials,skills developed) & Product Availability Statistics Evaluation Log #: 1995-0000 Three Day Workshop Workshops were held at four rural locations in Mahaska County and consisted of 9 hours of instruction. The workshops consisted of field trips to community businesses practicing recycling programs, recycling and decision-making activities, and crafts and exercises supporting recycling and ecological actions. Objectives for the workshop included: 1. Youth implementing and promoting recycling activities in their communities so that 50% of the area households and business participate in a recycling program, 50% of the area households adopt at least three sound ecological habits and creating an array of visual promotional tools that would be displayed throughout the community. 2. Participants will develop skills in advertising and mass media education, feel a sense of ownership for their community recycling programs, exhibit environmentally and ecologically sound decision-making and eagerly participate in future community service projects. Product Availability - Detailed information on the workshop is available through the Department of Public Instruction and the project director. Responses were logged to computer diskette which are kept by the project director. Youth participants were given a self-response survey at the completion of the workshop. Community household evaluations were also done through telephone surveys. Fortyfour youth took part in the workshops. The response from the workshops was very positive both from youth and area households and showed great impact. Much media exposure was also generated as a result of the workshops. Detailed information regarding the evaluation process is in the final project report which is kept on file at the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education.
