NoodleTools Tips
Step 1: Create a personal ID and
password.
• Example: tsmith [first name
initial followed by last name]
• Password must be at least 6
characters. It’s case
sensitive [ A or a ].
• First time registrants, the
School
Username: Coffman;
Password: Dublin
Step 2: Create a new citation
project
• Click on Create a New
Project
• Select MLA Advanced
• Name the new list
• Click Create Project
Step 3: To create a
bibliography/works cited, click on
Bibliography at the top of the page.
Then where it says, “cite
a”….choose the type of resource
you’re citing
• Using the pull down menu
from “Select a citation type”,
choose your resource “type”
• Follow the directions on the screen for periodical, non-periodical, etc.

Click on Generate Citation to see your Works Cited page
•
If you have
additional resources
to add to the Works
Cited, go back to
your project and
select the drop down
menu next to “Cite
a…” to create
another new citation.
Step 4: Printing, Editing,
Deleting
While you are in the active
project you can print out
the citation page, edit the
citations or delete them.
• Basic commands are
in the header
• Note the color coded
options on the right
Step 5: Notecards
You are now ready to make note
cards for your project
• Click New under the note
card heading
• Read the directions to
the right of the
textboxes carefully, so
that you answer all
sections correctly
• Click save when you’re ready
• You may create as many notecards as you need for each citation.

From this page I can save it as a word document to my computer or go ahead
and print out a hard copy to turn into the teacher, or share it with the
teacher electronically

The Anthology/Book material type
Tips for stories or sections out
of a textbook or anthology

If the article has no info
about the original
publisher click on the top
choice: Material in a
Collection/
Anthology
Click Next
Choose the type of medium
• Print: a hard copy book
• Online: an ebook or online
book
• Electronic Media:
something found on a CD,
DVD, Digital file, etc.
Know your resource’s basic
information (or be able to find it!)
• What’s the textbook
title? Or anthology’s
title?
• What’s the author’s
name?
• Page numbers you used in
the citation?
• Publisher?
• Publication date?
• Publication location?

Citing a Library Database
Decide what type of electronic resource you used from the database:
Reference, Magazine, Newspaper, Academic Journal
• Choose the format from the pull down menu under “Select a Citation
Type”
• Tip: Magazines, journals, and newspapers are Periodicals
• Tip: Reference is Nonperiodical
• Tip: Even though you used a computer to access the article the format
is not considered Electronic/Online in NoodleTools
Sample resource: Here’s a newspaper article that was found using the
library’s Student Resource Center database
“Spared Cyclone’s Worst, Area Still Suffers.” Somini Segupta. The New York
Times (Nov 22, 2007): pA24 (L).

Tip: article appeared under the NEWS category in Student Resource
Center, so it’s a newspaper
Step 1: Choose
Newspaper or newswire
as the material “type”
• Click “Create
Citation”
Step 2: Click NEXT on
the following screen,
leave Newspaper
bubbled in,

Step 3: Click on
Online newspaper
or newswire then
click Next
Step 4: If you
got the article
from one of the
library’s
databases, choose
the first option.
Answer the
questions related
to the article’s
original
publication
format. Then click
next.
Step 5:
Begin filling out your
information. Then
click Generate
Citation.
