Global Theme and Challenge
GLI Fellows identify a Global Theme to focus on during their 4
years. Fellows may change their theme after consulting with
GLI staff.
Choose a theme from these options:
Culture and Politics
Natural Resources and Sustainability
Public and Global Health
Social Inequality and Human Rights
Technology and Society
GLI fellows choose a Global Challenge that narrows the focus of
their theme. This challenge may be changed in conjunction with
the theme, or after consulting with GLI staff

General Education Courses
GLI Fellows should take General Education and elective courses
that broaden their perspective and enhance their knowledge of
their chosen Global Theme and topic. Fellows should consult
the Global Themes page of the GLI website for assistance in
finding classes related to their theme and topic.
Program Advising
GLI Fellows meet with their GLI academic advisor each
semester and faculty mentor during their senior year. Program
advisor meetings are listed below. Additional meetings can be
scheduled as needed.

funding to apply for a U.S. Passport by attending the GLI
Passport Day.
Junior Year
Beyond the Classroom Experience
GLI Fellows participate in activities related to their chosen
Global Theme and topic. These opportunities include study
abroad, internships, research and creative scholarship, and
service learning. The chosen opportunity must be worth at
least 3 upper-division credits.

All GLI Fellows have the opportunity to apply for funding to
assist with costs associated with this component.
Beyond the Classroom Reflections
GLI Fellows must submit 3 blog posts and one written
reflection for the Beyond the Classroom experience.

The Capstone Project
In small groups, GLI Fellows will develop a capstone project
which addresses crucial issues affecting the world community.
It’s possible for the project to be incorporated into majorspecific requirements as well.
