WINTHROP UNIVERSITY NOTICE OF JOB VACANCY Re-advertised May 16, 2016 POSITION: PAINTER (FACILITIES MANAGEMENT) (Class Code KC40/Trades Specialist IV) BAND: Band 04\Level 01 STARTING $26,139 minimum per year; qualifications and funding will determine actual salary SALARY: VACANCY: #201646 Minimum Training and Experience: A high school diploma, two years of experience in the painting trade, and a valid driver’s license required. Vocational training in painting gained either through formal education or a formal apprenticeship program preferred. Some experience performing basic carpentry work and ability to read blueprints preferred. The equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to read and follow written instructions and directions. Considerable knowledge of painting techniques, methods and practices. Knowledge of the techniques and practices of installing and repairing wallpaper. Considerable skill in the use of tools and equipment required to perform the job duties. Possesses basic carpentry skills and the ability to read blueprints. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions; climb a ladder and work at heights above 40 feet; drive a university vehicle; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, co-workers and supervisors. Major Duties: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Building Services, this position performs at the journeyman level in the specialized trade area of painting and also performs related carpentry duties, as needed. Prepares surfaces to be painted by scraping, sanding, wire brushing, chemical spraying and/or applying primer coat; applies spackling; re-glazes windows; and protects adjacent areas through the use of masking tape, drop cloths, etc. Applies paint, varnish and other protective coatings to buildings, fixtures and furniture using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other tools. Prepares surfaces and installs wallpaper. May construct, install and/or repair structures and fixtures made of wood, plywood, wallboard and similar materials in accordance with blueprints, drawings, or specifications. May assist in laying out the work to be done; cutting, measuring, fitting and assembling walls and other structures for new construction, renovations, or modifications; and making repairs to floors, walls, windows, doors, door frames, stairways, roofs, etc. Performs other related duties as required.
