Adult Day Care Services is a daytime community program providing supportive health and social services to
frail adults (18 & older). A holistic approach to client activities helps to maintain their maximum level of
independence, support their physical and mental functioning, and provide respite to family and other
caregivers.
Volunteers assist with age and limitation appropriate exercises, crafts, games, songs, hand/foot care, reading
aloud, walking, and mealtimes.

Alexander Youth Network is North Carolina’s leading provider of children’s behavioral healthcare. We provide a
comprehensive array of services developed to treat children with, or at risk for, serious emotional disturbance.
Our services include day treatment, outpatient therapy, psychiatric residential treatment, diverse array of
therapeutic family homes, community-based services, a shelter for children in crisis, and mentoring for children
involved with the juvenile justice system. Alexander serves more than 1,000 children each year from nearly
three quarters of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
Volunteers are needed to serve in a variety of capacities: special events, tutors, volunteer groups to leads
activities with children, and administrative duties.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of York County’s mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us
most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens.
Volunteers assist with PowerHour, after-school homework assistance, as well as programs in the areas of
Character & Leadership Development; Health & Life Skills; The Arts; Sports, Fitness & Recreation and
Education & Career Development. Volunteers are needed to mentor teens, assist in sporting events, and serve
as coaches and referees.
Internships are available for Winthrop University students.
There are three York County sites. Elementary sites operate M-F, 2:30-6:30 p.m., while the middle school teen
center hours are M-TR, 3:30-7:30 p.m. and 3:30-6 p.m. on Friday.

The Central Child Development Center and its satellite campus at the Applied Technology Center serve over
300 4-year olds who exhibit a need in the school district. It is a public school with certified teachers that offers
both a morning and afternoon session.

The Children’s Attention Home provides emergency residential and supportive service to children who have
been victims of abuse, neglect, and abandonment, ages birth to 21.
Volunteers are needed to serve as tutors, homework helpers, classroom buddies, toddler buddies, recreational
assistants and mentors, as well as music, art, drama, and dance assistants. All talents and skills are needed.

York County Christian Women's Job Corps is a mentor based ministry that equips women trapped in poverty,
or other dependant situations, for life and employment.
We use volunteers as mentors, as teachers (resume writing, job interview practice, budgeting, time
management, organization, parenting and more), in other words all of the soft skills needed to deal with life.
Volunteers plan Family Day Activities for the women in our program and conduct a weeknight camp twice a
year for Families.

The Department of Juvenile Justice is responsible for providing rehabilitation and custodial care for the state’s
juveniles who are on probation, incarcerated, or on parole for a criminal or status offense.
Volunteers are needed to serve at the TASC (Teen After School Center) and as auxiliary probation officers.
Auxiliary probation officers must be 21. Volunteers must undergo an extensive criminal background check and
DSS check (no fee is involved; DJJ will submit information for you).
Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen

The Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen exists to serve a free, hot meal in safe pleasant surroundings to whoever
comes through the door. Everyone is welcome and no questions are asked.
Volunteers are needed from 10:30 am to 1:00pm Monday-Thursday (none needed on Fridays or Saturdays) to
help with meal preparation, serving and clean-up. All volunteers must be scheduled in advance with Beverly

Interfaith Hospitality Network of York County (IHNYC) is a non-profit organization that provides meals, shelter,
support services, and life skills training for homeless parents and children through coordination with area
churches, social service agencies, and volunteers. The vision of IHNYC is that parents and children leave the
program better equipped to meet life’s challenges. The goal of IHNYC is that families resume and maintain
self-sufficiency and independence in permanent housing.
The IHN Day Center needs volunteers to provide transportation to agencies, employment, medical
appointments, etc. Volunteers can also baby-sit, provide companionship, assist in filling out forms, writing
resumes, job searches, provide children’s activities, tutor, supervise office when staff is out, supervise and plan
weekend activities, cover early mornings, run errands, assist with maintenance repairs, and more.

Florence Crittenton Services promotes health and hope for tomorrow’s children by providing comprehensive
health, educational, and social services to single, pregnant adolescents and women and their families.

A volunteer run non-profit organization of concerned citizens who address the immediate needs of other
citizens within the town of Fort Mill, South Carolina. Our major emphasis is helping families who find
themselves in need of basic necessities. If we cannot provide adequate assistance, we try to provide counsel,
or guidance to other agencies that can help. We’re open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9AM to
12PM.

Girls on the Run is a life changing learning program for girls ages 8-13. The program is designed to increase

Keystone provides treatment, intervention, and prevention services related to alcohol, tobacco, and other
drugs. They offer educational programs, individual counseling, and structured groups for adolescents and DUI
offenders, as well as in-patient detoxification. The agency also provides intensive outpatient treatment for
those who work during the day and for addicted women and their children.
Volunteers are needed to help with Health Fairs, event planning and similar activities throughout the year. In
addition, volunteers are needed for the “Summer Safety Fun Festival” in early May and the “Chocolate
Festival” in November.

Parent Smart’s goal is to provide parents with support and guidance in their role as the child’s first teacher. To
provide parent education and family literacy training to assist families with their educational needs and connect

In 2013, Thompson Child & Family Focus merged with York Place in South Carolina, which provides
community counseling in Fort Mill, Gaffney, Greenwood and York and residential treatment for mothers and
children on its campus in York. The combined agency now known as Thompson impacts more than 13, 000
children through hope, healing and education across 8 locations in the Carolinas. Volunteer groups are

York County Christian Women's Job Corps began in 1996 as one of five pilot sites for Christian Woman's Job
Corps, a ministry of WMU, in the nation. This ministry was created to address the spiritual, emotional and
practical needs of economically disadvantaged women and children in York County. Its purpose is to provide a
Christian context in which women are equipped for life and employment, in an environment where women help
women. That purpose is fulfilled when a woman has the skills to be self-sufficient within her culture.
