Lubna Haque Overall Outstanding Faculty Member
Associate Professor of Chemistry Lubna Haque is the
Overall Outstanding Faculty Member for 2013-2014.
Representing the Health and Sciences Division, Haque
earned a $1,000 award from the COD Foundation, which
annually recognizes outstanding teaching achievement at
the College. Haque spent much of her early career in
research, having earned a master’s degree in both
applied chemistry and chemical engineering. She spent
nine months at Purdue University as a nanotechnology
research associate and one year at the University of
Akron as a post-doctoral researcher where she originated
three patents in nanotechnology. Having taught on and
off for several years, Haque discovered she was
challenged most by teaching. “I realized the level of
dedication that teachers needed to be good at what they
do,” she said. “I decided to put research on hold and
started putting together teaching materials for my new
career.” Read More

Outstanding Advisors
For their exceptional work with
students, Susan Brodie
(pictured left) and Joanne
Wagner have been named
COD’s Outstanding Advisors
for the 2013-2014 academic
year. Their selection was based
upon demonstrated leadership
within their respective divisions,
participation in professional
development opportunities and individual comments from
students on their nomination forms. “Every person coming to
see me is important, and I must respect their differences,”
Brodie said. I want to ease their minds and lift their burdens
so they are no longer worrying about their educational paths.”
“It is my responsibility to ensure that our students reach their
educational goals and, in the process, feel that they have all
the support they need to help them succeed,” Wagner said. “I
love all aspects of both teaching and advising and find it
impossible to separate the two roles.” Read More
