Ken Gray – Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Member
Ken Gray, Ph.D., professor of Psychology at College
of DuPage, is the 2012-2013 Overall Outstanding
Faculty Member. Representing the Health and
Sciences Division, Gray will receive a $1,000 award
from the College of DuPage Foundation, which
annually recognizes outstanding teaching
achievement at the College. The Naperville resident
described himself as “completely directionless” when
he started college in the early 1980s. Although
originally deciding to pursue engineering at the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Gray
wasn’t interested in it. “I really disliked school as a
student. I took only one class that I liked and it was
psychology,” he said. “It was the one subject where I
could see how it related to my life.” Read More

Thank You…from Jane Smith, Director of Enrollment
Services and Registrar: “The outpouring of support shown to me
and my family from the College of DuPage community over my
husband Larry’s passing has been nothing short of amazing. I
thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of the beautiful
flowers, food, your attendance at the services, your kind words,
your cards, your special intentions on our behalf. I am truly
touched and grateful to be a part of such a caring community.”
Thank You…to Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth who
met with College employees and students, as well as
representatives from area institutions to discuss upcoming
legislation that would double the current 3.4 interest rate on
federally subsidized Stafford student loans starting July 1.
Duckworth received input and discussed possible methods for
reducing debt and making loan paybacks more reasonable for
student. Click here for photos from this event as well as a recent

Thank you…from Betty Krup, organizer of OSOT Rockin’ for
the Troops, to Marketing Director Laurie Jorgensen and
Student Recruitment Assistant Tracey Dulceak: “Just wanted to
thank you both for helping to make this year’s Rockin’ Kick-Off a
tremendous success. The SSC facility was wonderful and all your
help with set up, refreshments and lining up President Breuder
to be present for his opening words was beyond my expectations.
Those who worked the event all agreed it was a tremendous
location and your cooperation to tend to our every request was
greatly appreciated… Laurie and Tracey, this was my 6th KickOff, and this was the best I have attended. My heartfelt
appreciation to you and COD for your exemplary hospitality. See
you July 20th!” (For more info, visit www.osotamerica.org.)
Kudos to…Earth Science instructor Rick
Polad, whose new book, Change of Address
(Calumet Editions, April 13, 2013), has been
receiving rave reviews on Amazon.com: “Settle
in, you won't want to put this one down…(this
book) is a real treat. Protagonist Spencer
Manning is a strong, intuitive and sensitive
private investigator…The character development
is masterful, to the point of making the reader
feel as though you would recognize them on the
streets of Chicago…The story is fast paced with just enough
`breathing room' and the subtle clues only become apparent as the
story progresses.” The second Spencer Manning mystery by Polad
is due out in June 2013. COD students/staff can obtain the
e-version for.99 cents through a special publisher’s deal from
May 10 to 17 (regular paperback price is $9.88). Click here for
more information.
