Stephanie Torres New Student Trustee
Naperville resident Stephanie Torres is sworn in by
Board of Trustees Secretary Allison O’Donnell to serve as
this year’s Student Trustee at the Sept. 19 Board meeting. A
future “forensic nurse” who is finishing up her general
education requirements at COD, Torres will serve in this
position through April 24, 2014. “During my senior year of
high school, I promised myself I’d get more involved in
college,” Torres said. “So many students, like me, don’t
know the complexities of all that happens on campus and I
wanted to learn more and meet new people.” As Student
Trustee, Torres said she hopes her new position affords her
the opportunity to help address student issues. “I’m most
excited to be a voice for the students,” she said. “I see this
position as a great challenge as well as a great
opportunity.” Read More
Student Internships Important for Workplace
COD Graphic Design student Samantha Ragusin, who
has completed two internships while at COD, is right on
trend as the expectation by employers of internships for
college students continues to rise. Sara Kirby, Assistant
Manager of Career Services, noted that in addition to
gaining experience, students gain insight into a particular
industry, which gives them an edge and also helps them
determine if they’re on the right career path. Read More
COD Named 2014
Military Friendly School
COD was included in the 2014
list of “Military Friendly
Schools” compiled by G.I. Jobs,
a veteran-owned publication
focusing on post-military
education and employment.
This is the fifth consecutive year
COD has received this award.
Only 15 percent of colleges,
universities and trade schools
nationwide receive this
designation. “Understanding that the needs of men and women
returning from active duty go beyond those of traditional
students, College of DuPage offers support in a number of areas
for those re-acclimating to civilian life and higher education,” said
Shelly Mencacci, Coordinator of Veterans and Military Student
Services.” Read More
