Selected topics in librarianship addresses current issues in the field which necessitate a greater depth,
broader scope or fuller assimilation of a particular area of study.

Pre-Enrollment Criteria:
Prerequisite: LIBRA 1101 Introduction to Libraries and the Information Age with a grade of "NA" or
better, or equivalent. Or consent of instructor or program coordinator
A.
General Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to do the following:
1. Identify the basic concepts of a particular topic in library technology.
2. Discuss and explain a particular library issue or topic related to a specific library environment.
3. Analyze and apply the concepts of a particular issue in librarianship.
4. Analyze the field by studying a particular issue or topic in some depth.
5. Analyze the field of librarianship by studying and doing research related to a particular issue or
topic in some depth.
6. Apply knowledge from a selected topic to the development of a library research project for personal
or professional enhancement.

Topical Outline:
1. Each topic outline will be developed by the instructor guided by the specific library-related issue.
The topics selected will meet the differing interests and need of students and workers in the library
profession. Topics may include, but will not be limited to the following examples:
a. Internet and online services
b. Weblogs (Blogging)
c. Libraries as original content providers
d. The virtual library
e. Serving disabled patrons Youth services
f. Reader advisory
g. Program planning
h. Booktalking
i. Web design for libraries
j. K-12 school librarianship

Methods of Evaluating Students:
1. Students will be evaluated using at least two of the following:
a. Quizzes
b. Group or individual projects
c. Research papers
d. Group and/or class discussions
e. Objective and/or subjective tests
f. Project research methods
g. Demonstration
h. Class participation
