Hubert’s Hot Topics Scottish Corners Elementary October 23, 2015 Email: hubert_michelle@dublinschools.net Announcements Dear Families: I really enjoyed the conversations I had with all of the families that I met with last Thursday for Parent/Teacher conferences. It’s great to be able to share all of the progress that your child has made so far this school year. To those families with which I have to reschedule conference times, THANK YOU for being flexible. I will be sending out a new link for you all. I will offer two days for you to choose from in November. Learning Focus We continued to work on numbers to 100. The 100 Chart was a very important tool that we used as a resource. Not only did it help us count and find missing numbers, it also helped us to see patterns within the chart to guide us in counting by 2’s, and 10’s. We will be having our end of topic assessment test this upcoming week, which will determine if we are ready to move on to the next topic, or if we need to revisit any concepts within the unit that gave us difficulties. Once that is complete, we will begin our work with sorting, classifying, counting and categorizing data. Looking Ahead had earlier in the week and went on a leaf hunt. We observed like scientists, and each chose an Monday: Tuesday: We took advantage of the nice weather we AM Library PM Library interesting leaf. We traced our special leaf, measured its size using pennies, and used color words to describe them. They are excited to hang the finished products out in the hallway Wednesday: Thursday: Fall Parade and Party Friday: NO SCHOOL Harvest Parties Thursday, October 29th is our Autumn Harvest Party! The kindergarteners will parade at 10:45 and 2:15 and head back to our room for the party that the parent volunteers have worked hard to prepare. I ask that you please DO NOT send your child to school in his/her costume, but send it in their bag if they wish to bring one. I have set aside time for “getting ready” before our parade. for all the “big kids” to see. Continue working on the 12 word wall words we have covered in class up to this date. These are words that they need to quickly identify and be able to write. (a, I, to, the, see, my, like, go, is, and, in, it). Be on the look out for reading homework to begin coming home at the beginning of November. These books and activities are selected based on their individual needs in the reading process at this time in the school year.
