Hubert’s Hot Topics Scottish Corners Elementary September 14, 2015 Email: hubert_michelle@dublinschools.net Learning Focus Announcements Hopefully you saw the math work mats that have been coming home. These will be marked using a (+, √+, √, or a √-). These will NOT be counted as a grade, but used as a resource to guide my instruction and for you to use as a review at home. We have begun our Quick Checks here at school as well. These short review sheets will be given the day after the lesson is taught \ to verify understanding of a concept before moving onto the next lesson. The scores on these Quick Checks will be entered in to Progress Book. This past week we started working with our enVision program with a focus on the numbers one to five. We spent time counting numbers 1, 2, and 3 sequentially and in different arrangements. We focused on reading and writing these numbers as well. The students had no problem counting these numbers no matter how the arrangements, and benefitted from spending time writing them. They learned the importance of correct formation and how they should use the lines on the paper to help in correctly forming these numbers. During interactive/shared writing our focus has been on one-to-one correspondence (pointing to each word as they read it), as well as, using finger spacing between Picture Day Just a reminder that picture Day is THIS Thursday, 9/17. Order forms were sent home on Friday. Please send completed forms back to school prior to picture day. If you have misplaced your form, please let me know and I can send a new one home in your child’s Partner Pad. Looking Ahead Workshop that will begin this upcoming week. This week we are exploring the letter “a” and the sounds it makes through “The phonics Dance”. Have your child sing our chant for “a”. We will be practicing appropriate letter formation as a group and independently. This week’s Word Wall Words will be (I, a) Are you wondering how to optimize your reading time with your child at home? Are you looking for ways to support your child as he or she grows into a Wednesday 9/15: Thursday 9/16: words. We will carry these skills over into our Writing better reader?
