COD Interior Design Grad Decorates White House
Interior Design graduate Sheri Bolton (above) says she is
still pinching herself about her experience as a White house
holiday decorator. The owner and lead designer of Bolton
Designs and Interiors LLC in Chicago was one of nearly
100 volunteers from 35 states selected this year to help
decorate the White House for the holidays. Bolton had her
first meeting at the White House on Thanksgiving Day, and
for the next five days helped to transform the iconic
presidential residence. “We met First Lady Michelle Obama
at the Volunteer Reception, and she gave a speech to us
that was heartfelt and warm. She appreciated the sacrifice
we all were making to be away from our families,” said the
Crete resident. Read More
COD Study Abroad Ranked Number One in Nation
According to the Institute of International Education’s Open
Doors Report, College of DuPage is ranked number one
nationally among community colleges offering credit for
studying abroad. “We’ve been in the top five for several
years and that, in and of itself, is something to be proud of,
but number one feels good and the timing is perfect,” said
Maren McKellin, Manager of Field and Experiential
Learning/Study Abroad. “We have such a great team of
staff and faculty right now and it shows.” Read More
Only the BEST in Manufacturing at COD
Dozens of educators, energy managers and facility directors
from across the U.S. recently visited the HVACR lab at
College of DuPage for a tour of the College’s state-of-the-art
HVACR training labs. During the visit, cohosted by COD, the
Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST)
Center and the Building Technologies division of Siemens
Industry, Inc., attendees toured the College’s HVACR lab
and watched demonstrations of the lab’s cutting-edge
training equipment. “COD is the only school in the U.S. that is
building training equipment on such a large level,” said
HVACR instructor Bob Clark (above). “We are creating a
path that schools across the nation can follow.” Click here

College of DuPage graduate Josh Longmire (above) is
close to achieving his educational goals after transferring to
the University of Illinois at Chicago to study computer
science. While his focus is on his studies, he’s also looking
for opportunities outside the classroom and recently
participated in the U.S. Cyber Challenge (USCC) through the
National Center for Systems Security and Information
Assurance. “The challenge was quite difficult, especially
since I was competing against in-industry IT and cyber
security professionals who did this for a living, as well as
Computer Science graduate students and professors,” he
said. “I’m quite proud to have been able to lead my team to
score third in the state.” Read More
