What’s new in Room 216?
MRS. O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS
z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z
The class listened intently
as “King Kyle” told us all
about himself !
Science inspired our focus in Reading and Writing
Workshop this week! We spent time learning new
vocabulary words (ecosystem, diversity, biotic and
abiotic.) We also worked on identifying and writing
about the main ideas as well as supporting details of
a passage that described the parts of an ecosystem.
To concluded the week, we brushed up on our ability
to identify the “cause and effect” within a passage
when focusing on a text entitled “Factors that
influence ecosystems.”
Students completed the AIR, Mathematics test!
It was inspiring to see them persevering through
Tuesday and Wednesday’s assessment. We spent
some time reviewing a number of geometry terms
while playing “Geometry BINGO!”

In Science we explored how living and nonliving
parts of an ecosystem interact. It was fun using the
book EcoMazes by Roxie Munro, to study examples
of various populations (plants & animals) within a
specific community/ecosystem.

Upcoming Events &Reminders:
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN MAY: There will not be an official
classroom, volunteer schedule sent out for the month of May however we will
need lots of helpers to go along with us on the May 31st Field Trip as well as
for the Super Games event planned for Friday, June 3rd (3rd Grade will be
attending Super Games in the morning). Thank you for all you do!
SPIRIT DAY: Students are encouraged to wear red, white & blue May 6th!
BOOK FAIR: The Spring Book Fair will be at Pinney May 3rd - May 12th
MOMS & MUFFINS: May 11th & 12th from 8-9 in the commons.
SPRING MAP ASSESSMENT: Our class will take the Math MAP assessment
in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 10th.
FEILD TRIP: We will be going to the Columbus Museum of Art on Tuesday,
May 31st. Be sure to send in the admission fee ($10) and permission form by
Friday, May 6th!
