STUDENT PLACEMENT
2015-2016
We believe that the placement of students into classroom groups is a very important decision. Our objective for every classroom is to create a nurturing and supportive community of learners that represents a balanced mix of abilities and needs. With each student we consider the following areas to help ensure this balance: Academic Achievement Work Habits and Behavior Social Needs Time Intensive Needs Teaching and Learning Styles You know your child best. If you would like to have input, please complete the form and return it to school on or before Friday, May 8th. We begin work on class placements in May, so receiving this information in a timely fashion is critical for inclusion in the process. The information you provide will be used as a valuable piece of your child’s profile, as we create the class placements. It is our desire to place your child in the best possible learning environment. We believe this procedure will help us create well-­‐ balanced, educationally sound, classroom groups, which will ultimately benefit all of the students. Please refrain from making specific teacher requests on the profile sheet as all teachers at Thomas Elementary are highly qualified and go above and beyond on a daily basis. Student placement information will be kept confidential by the principals and school counselor. Teachers at your child’s current grade level will work cooperatively with the upcoming grade level teachers, Ms. Cooper, the school counselor, and Mrs. Davis, the principal, to develop each classroom roster for the next school year. Your input and the five categories listed above will be considered when formulating each class list. Only after we have created what is believed to be the best classroom learning community for each child will we consider the assignment of teachers to the completed class rosters. This assignment will not be finalized until class lists are shared in August. Note: It is not mandatory to fill out this form, simply optional. Griffith Thomas Elementary School
