Assessment of the likely fire shelter contribution is done through an investigation or review process which
includes interviewing the fire fighter and/or examining the shelter deployment site, surrounding items, and the
shelter.
1
Numbers do not include old-style shelters that were also deployed at the same incident.
2
Two firefighters deployed one shelter.
3
Firefighters deployed shelters and survived the entrapment, but no assessment of the fire shelter contribution
was made by the investigation/review report or agency.
4
Fire shelters were deployed by personnel at a Los Angeles County Fire Inmate Camp, not by firefighters involved
with the Station Fire suppression efforts.
5
Two firefighters deployed one shelter inside the cab of an engine. After the engine ignited, the firefighters
attempted to exit. One firefighter exited and survived, the other firefighter did not exit.
