Drexel University College of Medicine Hahnemann University Hospital PODIATRIC SURGICAL RESIDENCY PROGRAM INFECTIOUS DISEASE ROTATION Goals: Upon completion of the rotation, the podiatric resident will be familiar with most infectious agents commonly seen in the community. The resident will know the drugs of choice for a wide range of infectious agents, and their dosage and administration. The resident will be familiar with diagnostic tests (i.e. gram stain, blood cultures, scans) to help aid in proper care of the patient with an infectious disease. The resident will be competent in work-up and evaluation of the patient presenting with an infectious disease. Competencies: The resident will be able to demonstrate the following competencies: 1. Diagnose infection and develop appropriate treatment plan 2. Interpret laboratory data to include C & S, gram stain, blood cultures and antibiosis monitoring 3. Provide local and systemic wound care, understanding the need for surgical drainage and debridement 4. Implement and formulate appropriate plans of management with use of antimicrobial therapy and choice of antibiotics 5. Understand the indication for infectious disease consultations
