Ex-Officio Present: B. Holzworth, E. Johnson, S. O’Hare, A. Walker-Andrews
Chair Tangedahl called the meeting to order at 2:12 p.m.
The minutes from 11/8/11 were approved.
Communication Items:

The Senate approved the curriculum consent agenda and the special topics procedure. Creative Writing changed a course number
from 312 to 322 and created a new 312 course. This is against the policy that course numbers may not be reused for ten years.
However, because the program just went through common course numbering the rubric will be different on the course so it is not
an issue.

The prerequisite catalog language was acceptable to the Prerequisite Working Group. It will need to be approved at the December
Faculty Senate meeting to get in next year’s catalog. This will increase the number of courses that are eligible to be included in
the next pilot (phased implementation) for fall 2012. The Working Group no longer expects that it will be possible to implement
catalog and Banner changes for fall 2012 registration. It’s important to be realistic in terms of what is manageable. A spring fasttrack review would be helpful to prepare for spring 2013 enrollment. Camie will draft a deadline letter in collaboration with
Executive Director O’Hare using the date of January 27th (first Friday of spring semester). This should allow ASCRC time to
process the forms and prepare a consent agenda for the February 9th Faculty Senate meeting. The letter will be sent after
Thanksgiving. Members should think about how the review will be conducted and review the form for clarity.

Associate Provost Walker-Andrews asked the Committee whether the crosslisting pilot should include random courses or a few
departments. Departments that have transitioned to common course numbers are preferred.
.
Business Items: Curriculum Review

The Social Science Consent agenda apended below was approved. The new minor in Global Public Health should have the
signatures of the chairs of the courses included in the minor before it can be approved. Also, the proposal should be updated in
terms of common course numbers. Professor Dalenberg will follow-up. It was noted that the Level II proposal for Police Science
has inconsistent language refering to a Level I with Level II documentation. Associate Provost Walker- Andrews will follow-up
with Lynn Stocking. In the future it may be necessary to have a member from the College of Technology on the subcommittee.

ASCRC discussed the revised forms / syllabi for the Mansfield Center courses. All of the course descriptions include the term
repeatability but it is irrelivant given the revised format of 5 courses. Also MANS 101 still describes the course as 22 weeks. The
language courses should be sequencial. Members are concerned in a general sense that Centers are offering courses and minors
but do not have unit standards. It seams there should atleast be an alignment with an academic unit. ECOS willl be informed and
the issue will be considered along with the draft procedure for free standing minors in the spring. Associate Provost WalkerAndrews was going to ask the Provost for input as well. Chair Tangedahl will communicate to the Mansfield Center regarding the
courses.
