Please explain/justify the new proposal or change. 
We are modifying the required courses for the BA in dance to give students greater flexibility to select their
own area of focus within the degree. By decreasing the emphasis on multiple semesters of high-level
technique courses and performance credit, and by allowing for a greater range of elective courses, we are
aligning the BA more closely with UM’s liberal-arts model, being more inclusive of non-performing dance
scholars, and better training generalists who might obtain another degree in a timely manner.
