Bachelor of Arts
in Sociology
The Sociology Program offers courses leading to the
Bachelor of Arts degree. The curriculum is designed to
provide an understanding of the theoretical and practical
aspects of social systems and processes as well as the
historical, social, and economic basis of social institutions.
In addition to social theory and social research, students
may choose courses in criminology, family, substance
abuse, deviant behavior, social psychology, role of media,
social problems, etc. which enables students to analyze,
critically evaluate, and engage in the planning of solutions
to problems that evolve from patterns of human social
interaction.

The purpose of the Sociology Club is to inform students
around campus community about the field of Sociology
through informative seminars, research endeavors, social
events that promote interaction between students and faculty, and to raise awareness about social issues. The Club
is committed to promoting the humanistic values of social
awareness, peace and justice, and the appreciation of human diversity within the PVAMU community and beyond.
The Organization’s Slogan is “Real Recognizing Real”
which was Sociology students’ characterization of what
they felt they stood for—Real students Recognizing Real
Issues—and attempting to address issues impacting the
