Prairie View A&M University 2013-2014 Brailsford College of Arts and Sciences Bachelor of Arts in Sociology The Sociology Program offers courses leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. The curriculum is designed to provide an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of social systems and processes as well as the historical, social, and economic basis of social institutions. In addition to social theory and social research, students may choose courses in criminology, family, substance abuse, deviant behavior, social psychology, role of media, social problems, etc. which enables students to analyze, critically evaluate, and engage in the planning of solutions to problems that evolve from patterns of human social interaction. The Club is committed to promoting the humanistic values of social awareness, peace and justice, and the appreciation of human diversity within the PVAMU community and beyond. Career Paths for Sociology Majors The Bachelor of Arts in Sociology is a versatile degree that will prepare graduates for employment opportunities in all sectors of society: government, education, business and industry. Graduates find employment in public agencies at the federal, state and local levels, teaching, urban and community planning, state legislatures and Congress, non-profit organizations, law enforcement, and foreign service.
