SA1415-###: Resolution Granting Advanced Approval to Relay for Life Use of the REC

WHEREAS; Relay for Life is an annual event that is fully supported by UWL and has been held
in the REC for the past 10 years;
WHEREAS; Relay for Life has requested use of the REC for two subsequent dates in April or
May 2016 falling on a Friday and Saturday;
WHEREAS; the final submission date for resolutions for the Spring 2015 Student Senate session
is Monday, April 27th;
WHEREAS; the 2015 event is scheduled for April 24th, 2015 making it difficult for Colleges
Against Cancer and the American Cancer Society to forecast next year’s date while in the final
planning stages of this year’s event;
WHEREAS; Granting advanced approval allows Relay for Life the opportunity to promote their
event as soon as the date is finalized, much sooner than the potential approval process in the fall;
WHEREAS; the planning committee will work closely with Rec Sports and Event Services
within the next month to identify an open date in 2016;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Student Senate grants Relay for Life permission to
use the REC for the two dates it chooses as outlined above.
