Job Description for Four Week Placements

Department: Curry Health Center –

Health Enhancement and/or the Student Assault Resource Center

Terms of Employment

This is a four week rotation with the option of continuing the next semester. 15 – 20 hours per week, schedule is flexible.

Note: During the fall semester the Intern will have an opportunity to spend two weeks at both

Health Enhancement and the Student Assault Resource Center (SARC). If, during the spring semester, the student has interest in continuing their internship at Curry Health Center they would choose to work with either Health Enhancement or SARC.

Health Enhancement

Position Title

Student Wellness Intern

Position Description

During this brief introduction to the Health Enhancement department, the intern will have the opportunity to learn about promoting health and wellness, and reducing risky behavior on a university campus. They will have the opportunity to work alongside project leaders working on tobacco use prevention and cessation, alcohol awareness, sexual health, and impaired driving prevention. They will also work with the peer education team as they develop presentations and outreach projects.

Responsibilities

Attend staff meetings

Attend PRO peer educator meetings/work sessions

Participate in outreach programs, staff tables

Assist with design and test marketing of educational materials

Assist students coming into the office for health information

Qualifications

Excellent people skills

A positive attitude

Good sense of humor

Ability to work as part of a team

Excellent computer skills

Learning Outcomes

Student will be able to list at least 5 health issues affecting students.

Students will be able to describe how health related issues like substance use, stress and depression can affect student success and retention, and what strategies a campus can implement to address these issues.

Student will be able to describe risk reduction strategies for at least 3 health issues facing students.

Student Assault Resource Center

Position Title

SARC Outreach Intern

Position Description

During the introduction period the intern will have the opportunity to work alongside the

Outreach Assistants to assist in fall semester presentations and event planning. The intern will learn about SARC’s Outreach approach to raising awareness about sexual and intimate partner violence on campus and ways we encourage healthy community leadership and responsibility.

Responsibilities

Attend Outreach meetings

Participate in outreach programs, staff tables

Assist and attend Outreach Presentations

Qualifications

Excellent people skills

A positive attitude and good sense of humor

Ability to work as part of a team

Organizational and time management skills

Comfortable with public speaking

Learning Outcomes

Student will be able to speak about some main issues pertaining to healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Students will understand the basic response tools and actions advocates make when helping a survivor.

Students will be able to understand the basic concepts of bystander intervention, and both the barriers to intervention and the means to intervene.
