For further information on this position contact Ron Perry, District Timber Management Officer at (530) 258-2141, or e-mail at rperry@fs.fed.us Description of Duties Associated with this Position: In accordance with approved management plans, Environmental Assessment Reports, and sale contracts, plans, organizes, inspects, and reviews work sequences for active timber sales. Conducts inspections of logging operations for compliance with specific contract provisions. Maintains a record of timber cut and ensures collection of payments as required to keep payments ahead of cutting schedules. Ensures accountability of all products removed. Prepares and completes formal changes in status of timber sale contracts including extensions, modifications, performance of contract by third party, assignment of timber sale in trust, uncompleted timber sale contracts, cancellation of contract, breach of contract, and submits to supervisor for approval. Prepares reappraisals and rate determinations on sales. Conducts final inspection and recommends closure of the timber sale contract. Establishes and maintains liaison with designated purchaser sale representatives to be completely aware at all times of the status and on-the-ground conditions of all active timber sale areas. About the Lassen NF: Page 1 of 3 The Lassen is a total of 1.2 million acres or 1,875 square miles. It lies within seven counties; Lassen, Shasta, Tehama, Butte, Plumas, Siskiyou, and Modoc of Northern California, at the Crossroads, heart of one of the most fascinating areas of California. Here the granite of the Sierra Nevada, the lava of the Cascades and the Modoc Plateau, and the sagebrush of the Great Basin meet and blend. It is an area of great variety, greeting visitors and residents alike with a wide array of recreational opportunities and adventures. Fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, bicycling, boating, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and just exploring and learning about nature are among the many popular pastimes. Management includes timber for homes, forage for livestock, alternative energy, water, minerals, and many other natural resources. About the Almanor RD: The Almanor Ranger District encompasses the southern end of the Lassen National Forest, in northern California. It includes the area around Lake Almanor and south of Lassen Volcanic National Park. State Highways 36/89 and 32 both lead through the District. The District Office is located in Chester. Located in a scenic mountain setting near the town of Chester, Lake Almanor is one of the largest man-made lakes in California. A large portion of the Lassen National Scenic Byway leads through the District. Both the Ishi and Caribou Wildernesses are found here. The McCarthy Point Lookout is an historic cabin located northeast of the Ishi Wilderness, which offers scenic views and overnight stays. In the winter, the District has several snowmobile areas, a cross-country ski area and a downhill ski area. The Almanor Ranger District has an active timber program utilizing a wide variety of silviculture treatments. The annual target is approximately 26,000 ccf which are sold primarily in the form of timber sale contracts. About Chester: Chester is located in Plumas County, California, United States. The population was 2,144 during the 2010 census. The town is located along State Route 36 and on the shore of Lake Almanor. The primary industries in Chester are lumber manufacturing and tourism. Chester serves as the retail center for the Lake Almanor region of California, and derives a significant portion of its economy from the tourist trade, and to a lesser degree from construction to service new residents and businesses. Lake Almanor is a large artificial lake in northwestern Plumas County, in northeastern California. The reservoir has a capacity of 1,308,000 acre feet (1.6 km³) and a maximum depth of about 90 feet. It is formed by Canyon Dam on the North Fork of the Feather River, as well as Benner and Last Chance Creeks, Hamilton Branch, and various natural springs.
