John O. Hudson III Vice President of Public Relations Alabama Power Company John O. Hudson III is an attorney who serves as vice president of Public Relations at Alabama Power Company. The company provides reliable, affordable electricity to more than 1.4 million customers across the state of Alabama. He was recently elected to the board of directors of the Alabama Power Foundation, one of the state’s largest corporate philanthropic organizations. Prior to joining Alabama Power, Hudson served as senior vice president of corporate diversity and public affairs at Regions Financial Corporation, one of the nation’s largest full-service providers of consumer and commercial banking, trust, securities brokerage, mortgage and insurance products and services. Hudson continues to have an association with Regions – the only Fortune 500 company headquartered in the state of Alabama – as chairman of the organization’s Diversity Advisory Council. Prior to joining Regions Financial Corporation, Hudson was engaged in the private practice of law, and also served as president and chairman of The Hudson Group – a public policy consulting firm that provided strategic communication and governmental affairs counsel to a vast array of corporate clients. Before practicing law and establishing The Hudson Group, he served in roles of increasing professional responsibility at Alabama Power. During that time, he served as assistant to the president and CEO and as area manager of the Birmingham Division, the company’s largest customer service and operations center. A member of the Alabama State Bar (ASB) and of ASB’s Diversity In the Practice Committee, Hudson is also a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association and the Alabama Lawyers Association. He is licensed to practice law in all Alabama state courts as well as the United States District Courts of the Middle, Northern and Southern Districts of Alabama. Integrally involved in the community, Hudson serves as a member of the board of directors of several civic organizations, including the Birmingham Museum of Art, Children’s Health System of Alabama, A.G. Gaston Boys and Girls Club and the Birmingham Jefferson Film Commission. He also serves as a distinguished member of the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham, the Newcomen Society of Alabama, Kappa Alpha Psi Inc., and Sigma Pi Phi fraternity, also known as the Boule’. With a strong interest in aiding institutions of higher learning, Hudson serves as a board member of Miles College, Miles College School of Law and the Jefferson State Community College Foundation. Hudson received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Alabama A&M University, is a cum laude graduate of Miles College School of Law, completed the Executive Accounting and Finance Program at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and has worked toward an LL.M. in taxation at the University of Alabama School of Law. He and his wife, Nyya, a municipal court judge in Birmingham, have an 8-year-old daughter, Jordyn.
