VILLAGE OF ALLOUEZ POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: REPORTS TO: Recreation Summer Camp Counselor Seasonal APPROVED: January 6, 2016 Recreation Coordinator/Camp Coordinator FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB PURPOSE: The Camp Counselor is responsible for coordinating and running daily recreational activities for program participants. The Counselor is responsible for providing a safe, fun and comfortable atmosphere for all, while instilling the five core values of the Village of Allouez Day Camp. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive and other duties may be required and assigned. Plans, organizes, leads and supervises activities performed d each day. Responsible for safety and direct supervision of day camp program participants ranging in age from 6-12. Responsible for supervision of assigned facility during work hours (including but not limited to security, cleanliness, and safety). Reports all significant events, problems, issues or occurrences to immediate supervisor. Observes and follows safety rules at all times. Develops positive relationships with fellow staff, supervisors, program participants, their families and the general public. Reports to work on time each day and remains at the site until closing, unless otherwise directed by supervisor. Assures the safe keeping of all equipment. Completes necessary paperwork specific to job responsibilities (attendance forms, accident/incident report forms, facility check lists, etc.) Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor Page 1 of 2 Date Revised: 01/06/2016 POSITION QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent and some work experience are preferred. Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification or must be able to obtain certifications. Must be at least 18 years of age. A commitment to working with school age children in a recreational setting, as well as the ability to work with diverse populations is required. Must have transportation to and from work site. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to work with school age children. Ability to participate in a variety of activities. Ability to lead – good leadership qualities Ability to perform & demonstrate program related activities. Ability to interact with parents/guardians when necessary Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time. Does not supervise others. Decisions affect the operation of the work unit. Receives general supervision and works alone on routine work from standard practices and procedures. SUPERVISION/DECISION MAKING: INTERACTION: Frequent contact with campers, co-workers, immediate supervisor, residents, and general public. Contacts involve routine matters where information is furnished or obtained. HOURS OF WORK: Camp runs from mid-June through late August.
