Trilithic 860 DSPi Field Analyzer Continues Evolving
Product Life Extension Lowers Cost of Test Equipment Ownership
Indianapolis, Indiana (Thursday, June 15, 2006) Years of Trilithic
product development are paying off for owners of the 860 DSPi Field
Analyzer, with extended product life expectancy as the analyzer retains
value and technical relevance through a continuous adaptation to new
technology and services offered by cable companies. Firmware
updates and improvements occur virtually every month with dramatic
new features being added without fanfare, but resulting in a very
impressive product that continuously evolves to meet the needs of
advanced service installation and field technical staff.

The 860 DSPi is the only field analyzer with a DOCSIS 2.0 modem and dual MAC certificates. It has
exceptionally quick boot-up and test mode transition, the largest display, and longest battery life. The 860
DSPi can be configured to act as a web server for remote operation. Advanced modes include spectrum
analysis and automated test, advanced reverse alignment and Sweepless sweep and SpeedSweep
modes and now covers a frequency range up to 1GHz.
860 Firmware Enhancements – An advanced spectrum analyzer option, which can be purchased and
activated without returning the product to the factory, rivals laboratory grade spectrum analyzers for
update speed and measurement range. A new cable modem dual certificate feature enables provisioning
the instrument’s modem with two different levels of service, providing a means to test QoS, advanced
throughput and other applications.
Enhanced Digital Measurement – Standard on new units, and available as an factory upgrade on
fielded units, this feature enables measurements on interleaved digital signals, adds the ability to perform
impulse BER tests, as well as errored seconds and code word errors. The impulse BER test allows a
technician to see how BER is affected by transient interference due to ingress or impulse noise over an
extended period of time.
Voice over IP Testing – RTP testing is a standard feature, which provides a means for testing VoIP
parameters using an economical test server at the headend. The browser feature on the 860 DSPi can
be used for control and display functions with a Minacom PowerProbe 30 Responder to provide
comprehensive installation tests of call connection and voice quality. The loopback test feature enables
voice quality testing at field test points using only the 860 Field Analyzer as a loopback responder to a
Minacom PowerProbe controlled by a DirectQuality R7 Server.
