Approval of minutes from Feb 22, 2013 Meeting (attached) - M/S/P 2. Appeal for time extension from Graduate Student (documents attached) – moved into closed session - Closed session - M/S/P – roll call vote; - vote to approve extension with a December 2013 date – M/S/P 3. Review of RSEL Recommendations from Sub-Committee - 9 proposals – all asking for full amount – recommendation to fund each one for the full amount – M/S/P - co-applicants a possibility – only if they stand on their own merits - move to add a 2nd deadline for RSEL grants and for flexibility with travel restrictions - M/S/P 4. Review of Graduate Faculty Applications from Sub-Committee (attached) - No CBA; - 6 CLS - M/S/P - 1 SAH – M/S/P 5. Graduate Student Appeal Process - google doc review - discussion only for today - proposed change to graduate catalog – “Current Standards” (academic) -- Academic action, e.g. dismissal, may be appealed to the student's program. Decisions of a program are final, though students should contact the Office of University Graduate Studies to determine if any further action is possible. and Graduate Council through the Office of University Graduate Studies, if compelling evidence is presented to warrant exception to the policy. - if this is a gpa dismissal, then there is not need for due process – - undergraduates have a protocol of due process – graduate students do not - idea is that graduate students should be able to appeal warranted situations the same as undergraduate students - in graduate catalog maybe a proposal for non-academic dismissal (professional behaviors) - as a grad council please review the google doc and offer suggested revision process - suggestion to leave the catalog language as it stands and to work on a proposal for non-academic dismissal to be included in the catalog - better to discuss readmission procedure rather than dismissal issue 6.
