Academic Planning Committee Final Report -­ 2009/10 Academic Year Committee Membership Chris Frye Joe Kastantin, Secretary Curt Czerwinski Sharon Jessee Bradley Seebach Steven Senger, Chair Shelly Sinclair Chia-­‐Chen Yu Gubbi Sudhakaran Program Proposal Reviews and Approvals During this academic year the committee received and recommended approval of the following programmatic requests. • Proposal to divide current “Theatre Management/Arts Administration” emphasis into an “Arts Administrator” emphasis and a “Stage Management” emphasis. (12/10/09 meeting). • Proposal to rename the “major in mathematics with emphasis in statistics” to “statistics major” (2/18/10 meeting). • Proposal to split the “Exercise and Sports Science” major into a “Fitness” track and a “Pre-­‐Professional” track (2/18/10 meeting). • Proposal to move the academic home of the NMT program from Chemistry Department to the Health Professions Department (email consultation on 4/14/10). Special Charge In addition to its regular duties the charge letter to the committee asked Review existing criteria for new program proposals to determine whether they are suf]icient for any program that may include the use of online courses. In the case that a proposal builds on an existing program (e.g. moving a minor to a major) prior use and effectiveness of online offerings should be addressed. Please plan to provide a report to faculty senate at the November 12, 2009 meeting. Two committee documents pertain to this charge and at it’s 11/12/09 meeting the committee approved changes to the “Guidelines for Program Creation and Elimination” and “Guidelines for Certi]icate Programs” documents that incorporate language pertaining to online courses in new programs. These changes were approved by the faculty senate at its 4/1/10 meeting.
