Welcome to the Security+ Certi cation Course
This course will follow the o cial CompTIA book: CompTIA Security+ Study Guide for Exam: SYO-601
The content will follow the recommended topics however, I will provide the information using my own experience
and wording. If any information is quoted, I will provide the page number to reference. While you do not require
the book, you may purchase it if you would like to use it as a reference.

This course will contain slides for each chapter, which you may use as a reference for review in addition to the
videos where I will explain and illustrate where possible.

How to earn you Security+ Certi cation:
1. I recommend rst completing all of the Cybersecurity Career Mentoring Program technical material PRIOR to
studying for the Security+. The material will provide you with insight, experience, and understanding which will
bene t you.
2. Watch the Security+ Course content, take your own notes as needed. Review any material you do not
understand and do not move forward until you do. You may ask questions related to the material during the
“technical group calls” as necessary.
3. I recommend using review questions, this course does NOT contain review questions. Why? There are
resources that provide review questions. It is critical that you complete practice tests as you learn the material.
4. After each chapter, practice your review questions, do not move forward until you are able to consistently
score 85% or greater. Be sure that you are able to understand and explain each answer, avoid memorizing
practice test questions.
5. As you progress forward, review the prior chapter’s test questions or include them as you progress forward to
use the questions for review. For any areas of di culty, focus on those areas until you develop your
understanding. I will explain each topic area in detail, review as necessary.
6. Upon completing the material, do not schedule your exam until you are able to score 85% or greater in an
exam that covers all 17 chapters.
7. The exam voucher is NOT part of this program at this time, you will need to purchase the practice exam
questions and certi cation voucher.
8. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF! You can obtain your Security+ and I have certi ed hundreds of students, you can do
this! The Security+ is DoD 8570-M and ISO 17024 compliant, which will enable you to apply for federal
positions that require certi cations.

How to earn you Security+ Certi cation:
Learn the material and apply what you have learned to answering practice exam questions. While some material
may not be covered in the book or these lessons, it is important that you identify and learn any material that is not
covered.
Good news, I teach the material so that you understand not only for the exam, but also for real-world application.
The videos will help you learn and expand your knowledge beyond just the exam material. This will enable you to
understand and further your Cybersecurity knowledge.

Security+ Overview
The Security+ Exam: SYO-601 Requires a passing score of 750 out of 900
The exam has 90 questions total, which require the “BEST” answer. Some questions will have multiple answers that are correct
however, it is important that you answer the “BEST” option.
Some questions may be vague, use the answers to relate to the question, at times the answers will help provide context.
The wording can be informal and as some describe, “poorly written” however, the material will prepare you so that you will have
an understanding of the material.
I do not recommend scheduling your exam until you are scoring consistent 85% or better on your practice exams. Again, do
not memorize answers. I recommend purchasing a test-prep engine. If you purchase the CompTIA Security+ book, a test
engine is included.
It is important that you are able to answer the questions due to understanding and NOT by memory of the question and answer!

to relate everything to real-world understanding where possible.
Some areas do have information where you may need to memorize speci cs, I recommend notecards to practice.
However, I will do my best to make this friendly, fun, and along with providing an insight and education that is

and programming. My goal is simple, to teach you in the most e cient and e ective manner possible.
