Update on NCUR Planning. Drs. Sudhakaran and Cooper presented an update on planning for the upcoming NCUR conference (April 11-13, 2013). 40 rooms from Centennial and 30 rooms from
Wimberly will be used. A list is posted on NCUR Website. These rooms were selected because of their technology. There is an NCUR link on the UW-L homepage. There will not be a UW-L
Symposium this year, students instead are encouraged to present their research at NCUR. The conference will include Graduate Fair and will be combined with the annual International Dinner.
Faculty volunteers are being sought to review abstracts and to serve as moderators. UW-L students who submit and have their project accepted will be accommodated by funds currently budgeted for the conference.
VII.
Update on Online SEIs. Dave Robaczewski presented a power-point on the Online SEI project; a
71% response rate (9710 out/6855 submitted) was reported; students receive three e-mail reminders for a process that is to occur over 10 pay period; online SEI’s are open up to any department who wants to use them. Ensuing Senate discussion focused first on the response rate; concerns were expressed that only 70% of students responded. Senator Riley noted that only thing that seems to work to increase student response is instructor reminders. Kim Vogt commented that students tend to write a lot more than in the past. Karoline Auby, ADA
Mathematics, noted that instructors receive very similar numbers as compared with the previous SEI system. Senator Rott commented that it might be worth asking students who didn’t fill out SEI’s why they did not do so.
VIII.
Review of New Personnel System Implementation Decisions. The Senate then considered each point in proposed new Personnel System Implementation System. Numerous comments were made. The SEC will collect the comments into a single document and bring that document back to
Senate at its next meeting for endorsement.
IX.
The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Eric Kraemer, Faculty Senate Secretary
