The minutes of November 29, 2012, were approved as distributed.
Reports
A. Chancellor Gow reported on developments at the recent Board of Regents meeting.
B. Provost MacPherson expressed her gratitude to the Senate for its work.
M/S/P to approve the December Graduation List contingent upon the successful
completion of requirements for the respective degrees.
APR Revised Self Study Format for Free Standing Minor
M/S/P to approve the new form.
Discussion of Associate Degree Review from APC and General Education
Comments were made regarding [1] the few number of Associate Degrees actually
granted at UW-L, [2] the importance of advising those few struggling students who
might benefit from receiving an Associate Degree.
M/S/P to concur with the recommendations from APC.
Update: University Personnel Systems Documents
Human Resources Director Madeleine Hoelzen outlined recent policy changes involving
Personnel Systems approved by at the last meeting of the Board of Regents.
The Board of Regents did approve 3 policies, [1] overarching policies, [2] revised
policies for classified staff, and [3] a unified code of ethics for all employees. Several
other specific approved policy changes affecting classified staff were outlined. In
response to a question, it was noted that the Board of Regents is now the bargaining
unit for any remaining collective bargaining activities. It was noted that the terms
‘classified staff” and “unclassified staff” will be replaced by “Faculty”, “Academic Staff”,
and “University Staff”.
