Organization for Campus Women Minutes Wednesday, September 21, 2005, 12:00 p.m. Cartwright 263 Present: Sharie Brunk, Galadriel Chilton, Diane Dobbs, Jenifer Holman, Jo Ann Kuester, Judy Nieman, Jaralee Richter, Michele Strange, Jennifer Wilson, Maureen Wilson, Becky Yoshizumi Absent: Kari Heilman, Mau Zheng Welcome and Introductions Jaralee welcomed the 2005-06 steering committee; each member gave a brief introduction. Committee Reports Honors/Scholarship/Fundraising – Maureen Wilson reported that Mary Berling was previous chair; will be meeting with her to gather information about how the committee runs. Kenna Christians from Foundation said that we still have good balance in our scholarship fund – another $8000 to be split over two semesters. As we did last year, the Steering Committee will review scholarship applications. Social/Program – Judy Nieman reported that she is looking for a co-chair. OCW will host a Christmas social and possibly a hurricane relief fundraiser. This committee could also host a brown bag series. Membership/Elections – Jo Ann Kuester reported that election information needs to be updated on the web. Jo Ann will be sending out the new membership form soon. Jo Ann has gotten good feedback about the pins. Having the banner available for display will help to make OCW more visible and hopefully will help increase membership. OCW membership currently runs about 105 members. We have $544.12 in our OCW account which we could use to print our new brochure. Judy asked: What is the role of a member of OCW? Jaralee responded that members should support the women of the campus and get involved with OCW as they are able. Steering Committee members could work with new faculty and staff and encourage them to join OCW and get involved in OCW. Jo Ann will run a list of new hires that we can welcome individually. LTEs are another group that we could work with to increase participation in OCW. Symposium – Jennifer Wilson reported that she is looking for people interested in brainstorming for a topic this year. The money for Symposium comes from the chancellor (or came from the chancellor years ago); $1375 dollars each year is placed in an account for the symposium. Left over dollars are used for tablets, pens, and other items that highlight OCW. Sharie is writing a grant to bring Roger Seip (http://www.speakermatch.com/keynotespeakers/1393765208.htm) to campus; this presentation could be a good morale booster. He normally charges $5000 – but would be willing to come for $1500-$2000. He could be our symposium speaker this year. We could also partner with Women’s Advisory Council to bring in a speaker about work/life balance. Newsletter – Becky Yoshizumi has started working on the new newsletter. She has not heard from Saundy about putting the newsletter on the web. Becky is looking to find a new newsletter chair. Some items for the newsletter include a recount of last year’s activities and an interview with Jaralee, calendar, etc. Newsletter publication date is dependent on finding someone to put it on the web. Janice Ward would be a great person to post the newsletter on the web. Jaralee has scheduled the third Wednesday of every month for future meetings. We will call special meetings as needed.
