New business and updates
OCW Brochure-Michelle Stertz
Michelle updated the OCW brochure in Publisher. The group suggested including an insert with names
of steering committee members. The brochure should also push readers to the OCW website for current
contact people. Debra Hoeth is going to check with IT to see if OCW can get an OCW email address as a
way for people to connect directly with someone in the group. We want the email address Included in
the brochure. Sharie suggested moving some text to center back of brochure so that if info is filled in
and panel was torn off, the person would still have all the relevant information. Sue Lee will check on
photos from last year's scholarship banquet and get back to Michelle for inclusion.
Scholarships-Sharie Brunk
Student scholarships are due Feb. 15. Sharie needs help on the Scholarship Committee. Send Sharie an
email if you want to be on the committee. Teri will email everyone who is an OCW member to see
include the invitation to help to all OCW members. $5,800 was in the fund last year. The committee
submits a list of the top 8-10 applicants to Sara Olson. Sara culls out anyone who is already getting
significant money from other scholarships. Last year, of the approximately 55 applicants, 11 were
submitted to Sara. The top two each received $650. Amounts decreased based on where the applicant
ranked on the list. Some received $500 and others less than $500. Economic need is the factor that is
weighed most heavily in where applicants rank.
Spring Symposium April 10-Teri Talpe
The symposium is scheduled from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, in Port O' Call, Cartwright
Center-Gunning Addition. Teri requested volunteers to help with the symposium. Debra Hoeth, Sharie
Brunk and Maureen Wilson volunteered to help. Marci Madary, of Integrative Therapies, 2316 State
Road, will be the keynote speaker and will speak at noon. Last year our speaker talked about work/life
balance. Although we originally discussed having Marci speak on inner peace, Teri will talk with her to
ensure that the talk will not be similar to last year's. We thought last year we charged $3 a member
and $5 for non-members. Posters were emailed to the OCW group and other women on campus. We
discussed also emailing department heads and YWCA Tribute winners, as well as Self Sufficiency
Program participants. We will include information in the Campus Connection, a poster and will have an
online pre-registration form. We'll have OCW brochures at the site. Teri has Marci's bio and photo and
will confirm Marci's cost and work with Deb to provide a contract for Marci to sign. Once we determine
how much money is in the OCW fund, we can better determine what food and drink we want to supply
and if we want to use Sodexo, bring in our own food or a combination of the two.
Self Sufficiency Program Mentoring/Meals/Flash Drive Purchases-Teri Talpe
Sharie Brunk says that SSP has about 13-15 students. Sharie will be attending next Tuesday's class and
taking the group through career assessments in 150 Murphy Library. Class is scheduled to begin at 6:15
p.m., however, students arrive between 6:15 and 6:30. Sharie anticipates that her discussion will last
until 7:30-8 p.m. Teri hopes to attend a class soon. Sharie will connect with Andrea Hansen to discuss
when a good time to attend would be and what would work best for providing meals occasionally. We'd
previously talked about volunteering to provide a meal once a month. We discussed teaming up to
provide meals monthly throughout the semester with sign up on a google doc. If the class were told in
advance that we'd provide a meal at 6 p.m. the next week, we hope that it would give us time to
connect with participants before the class started. OCW may not be able to afford purchasing flash
drives right now. But Karmin will submit a grant request to Campus Climate and Diversity to see if they
will provide funds for this. Maggie McHugh is checking into getting gas cards.
Funds Update-Debra Hoeth for Amy
There is some confusion as to how much money OCW has. It looks like there are two funds that we have
information on:
 The 136 account has a balance of $539.46 (which includes a
Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership,
 WWHEL, grant for $500). The restricted foundation account, the "OCW Development Fund," has a
balance of $598.50. Membership dues should have been fed into the 136 account. Funds from the
Cookie Off estimated at $400 should be in the development fund. Deb thought there may be another
151 account and will check with Amy to verify funds and will share this information on the website.
Other—Enneagram—Sharie Brunk
Sharie shared her enthusiasm for the Enneagram OCW January retreat. Others who participated said
they enjoyed the retreat as well. Career Services and the Advising Center hopes to incorporate the
Enneagram into a summer meeting/retreat.
Teri adjourned the meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue Lee, OCW Secretary
