POST-DOCTORAL RESIDENCIES 2016-2017 Post-doctoral Residencies in Psychology The post-doctoral residency is designed for graduates of a doctoral psychology program who are seeking licensure and are interested in providing services in a university setting. The majority of the resident’s time will be spent delivering clinical services, with the remaining time involved in outreach, consultation, receiving supervision, and other clinic activities. There are two postdoctoral vacancies. This is a twelve-month residency with a start date of August 15, 2016 and an end date of August 14, 2017. Each post-doctoral position carries a stipend of $26,260 with medical benefits, university holidays, and additional vacation/sick leave. Residents will also have access to EPPP study materials and receive professional development funding. Qualifications Strong preference will be given to those applicants who have completed all requirements for a doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the residency start date. Applicants who are all but dissertation (ABD) may be considered. A completed APA/APPIC approved internship is preferred. Qualified candidates should have strong clinical skills in the areas of treatment, assessment, and crisis intervention. Some experience in a college/university counseling center is preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with mood disorders, AODA issues, eating disorders, ADHD, and working with diverse and underserved populations. University of Wisconsin – La Crosse Counseling and Testing Center The UW-L Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) offers comprehensive counseling services and works closely with the campus Student Health Center to offer medical and psychiatric services. CTC staff work together as a collegial interdisciplinary team, and staff have a variety of theoretical orientations (including client-centered, strengths-based, feminist, CBT, DBT, and ACT approaches). Our campus values the importance of mental health, and the CTC staff works in close collaboration with numerous campus offices and partners, including Residence Life, the Office of Multicultural Student Services and Campus Climate, Pride Center, International Education & Engagement, Veteran Services, and Wellness Resource Center. CTC is centrally located on campus in Centennial Hall, a modern building constructed in 2011. The full range of clinical services are provided to both undergraduate and graduate students at UW-L. The CTC focuses on providing effective short-term therapy; however, selected longer-term cases may be available to residents. Our testing center offers a variety of national testing programs such as ACT, Praxis, and GRE to UW-L students and local community members. Additionally, CTC clinical staff may provide psychological assessments and interpretation for clients and groups (e.g., MMPI). CTC also offers workshops and individual sessions focusing on academic skills such as test preparation and managing test anxiety. CTC staff focus on providing inclusive and culturally competent services to the UWL community. Post-doctoral Resident Activities The post-doctoral resident is expected to provide individual and group counseling services, as well as triage assessments, intake assessments, crisis intervention, educational presentations, prevention programming, training activities, outreach, consultation, and other administrative activities in which the staff participates. Residents are responsible for leading two therapy or psychoeducational groups per semester. Residents will be trained in and conduct AD/HD evaluations. The resident will also provide supervision to a master’s level practicum student. The resident has the opportunity to be a member of Counseling and Testing Center committees as well as other university-wide committees. There are no after hours on-call responsibilities for this position. Residents receive one hour of individual clinical supervision per week from a primary supervisor, one hour of group supervision per week from a secondary supervisor, one hour of group case consultation per week, and one hour of staff training per week. Residents participate in a monthly seminar geared towards professional development topics for early career psychologists. Residents are provided flexible time to study for licensure. Residents also have the opportunity to choose a training rotation. Training rotation options include: 1) eating disorders treatment and participation in an interdisciplinary Eating Disorders Treatment Team; and 2) a focus on working with diverse and underserved populations.
