Pointer Staff Resigns;
Will Go Independent

Next week Wisconsin State Universit y-Stevens Point
will officially celebrate its 75th annivet"SU"y.

This extraordinary move by The Pointer staff mCans
t hat t he paper will be publish~pus without
campusaffilirn ions.
The paper will cost .students 10 cents a n issue for the
rest of this year and next year will either cost the students
10 cent an issue or S2.50 for year's subsaipt ion.
liowever, this cost will be a savfngs of approxiately $2
ptr year per student. The cost of The Pointer has always
been included in the activity fees paid each semester by
'Students. This year that cost was about S4.50 per student.
In going independ ent, The Pointer d emands the St udent
Senate Finance committee drop t he $4.50 charge on
students. The students will now have the choice- which
should alwaYstuve existed - of buying t he paper at t heir
own choosing (at S2.SO) or not buvin2 it.
WHY INDEPENDENT?
The move to go independent has been long brewing
among 1be Pointer staff. However, il should be made clear
from the o utset thai lhe paper has not been forced into
I his move because of an y imposed censorship.
~ has been OOQ'lplctely free to print whatever
its ed ilors fe!t woukl be appropriate.

Our ormat Will be similar to the present Pointer.
· We will be a weekly student newspaper of news,

students and will be receptive to all student opinion.
The Pointer as an independent paper wiU be IOia Uy
